About 30 miles northeast of Naples is Corkscrew Sanctuary Swamp, a National Audubon protected sanctuary. A two mile plus boardwalk wound through the swamp and gave us our first look at the alligator in addition to several species of birds and raccoons. There are numerous volunteer opportunities and Steve and I are discussing the option for 2014 or 2015. Of course it will need to be during the coolest time of the year so the combination of humidity and heat is not overwhelming for our Alaskan bodies.
